Dentistry for Kids
Most adults understand automatically that they need to see us every six months for a routine checkup and cleaning. However, these same adult patients are often surprised to learn that their little one also needs to be seen regularly in our office. It is understandable to be a little bit uncertain about how soon you can bring your child in for their first dental appointment. The fact is, we need to be seeing them as early as their first birthday or when they get their first tooth, whichever comes first. By getting them started with us here at Cane Bay Family Dentistry at a young age, we can help them establish good oral hygiene habits that can benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Why Kids Need to See Us
It is very important that you introduce your children to us at an early age. By getting them started as soon as their first tooth erupts, you are setting them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Regular dental appointments with your child can help us quickly detect and address any bite or alignment issues that may cause complications later on in life.
We can also help show your child how to brush and floss properly, showing them how to take good care of both their primary and their permanent teeth. We can also talk to you, the parent, about any dental concerns you may have for your child, including pacifier use or baby bottle tooth decay. We can advise you about proper nutrition and how to prevent gum disease. If we do detect any problems, we can start them on prompt treatment.
Preparing Your Kid for Their First Visit
Your child may have many questions for you about what it is like to see us. By talking to them calmly and gently about what to expect, you can help prepare them for their appointment with us and make it a positive experience for them. Take the time to talk to them about dental care and let them know what will happen during their first dental exam. Please do not try to scare them, and do not make us a threat or punishment. Instead, please focus on highlighting the benefits of good oral hygiene and how we will work with them to help keep their mouth and teeth healthy.
On the day of the appointment, try to plan it around a time that they are well-rested and not tired. Some young patients respond better to appointments that happen after their nap. Also make sure they are not hungry beforehand, as this can make it more difficult for them. If they do have a meal or snack before they come in, please make sure you clean their teeth before their appointment.
Coming to see us does not need to be a scary event that is met with tears or confusion. If you are ready to set up an appointment with us for yourself or your child, or you have a few more questions for us about dentistry for children, please give us here at Cane Bay Family Dentistry a call today at (843) 352-4454!

"I had a great experience at CB Family Dentistry. Had to bring my child twice in less than a week for follow up and their outstanding service is consistent. The staff is friendly and helpful, the office is clean, almost no wait before being called in and the appointment availability and choices are great. The DMD was fantastic to my child which made procedures go very smooth."/div>
